Indication
Proton pump inhibitor used to reduce gastric acid secretion. Indicated for gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD), and H. pylori eradication as part of combination therapy.
Ingredients
- Omeprazole 20 mg

Side effects
- Common: headache
- nausea
- diarrhea
- abdominal pain
- constipation
- flatulence.
- Less common: dizziness
- rash
- peripheral edema
- elevated liver enzymes.
- Rare: hypomagnesaemia
- Clostridioides difficile
- associated diarrhea.
- Very rare: severe skin reactions (Stevens
- Johnson syndrome)
- hepatitis
- interstitial nephritis.
Precautions
- Not recommended in patients with known hypersensitivity to omeprazole or other proton pump inhibitors.
- Exclude gastric malignancy before starting treatment
- may mask symptoms.
- Long
- term use may cause hypomagnesaemia and vitamin B12 deficiency
- periodic monitoring recommended.
- Use with caution in severe hepatic impairment.
- Avoid concomitant use with clopidogrel due to reduced antiplatelet effect.
- May reduce absorption of pH
- dependent drugs (ketoconazole
- itraconazole
- atazanavir).
- Keep out of reach of children.
