Lipiget 20 mg

Indication

Lipiget contains Atorvastatin, an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) used as an adjunct to diet to treat primary hypercholesterolaemia, mixed dyslipidaemia, and to reduce cardiovascular events in patients at high cardiovascular risk.

Ingredients

• Atorvastatin calcium 20 mg

Direction

Adults: 10–20 mg once daily orally. Dose may be adjusted at 4-week intervals up to a maximum of 80 mg/day. Can be taken at any time of day, with or without food.

Side effects

• Common: headache
• nausea
• diarrhoea
• myalgia.
• Common: nasopharyngitis
• arthralgia
• pain in extremities.
• Uncommon: myopathy
• insomnia
• liver function test elevation.
• Rare: rhabdomyolysis (stop immediately).
• Rare: hepatitis
• jaundice.
• Rare: peripheral neuropathy.
• Rare: new
• onset diabetes mellitus.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in active liver disease or unexplained elevation of serum transaminases.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis — report unexplained muscle pain
• tenderness
• or weakness immediately.
• Caution with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g.
• ciclosporin
• clarithromycin
• HIV protease inhibitors).
• Avoid grapefruit juice.
• Caution with fibrates
• niacin
• colchicine (increased myopathy risk).
• Monitor liver function tests.
