Indication
Acide Folique CCD contains Folic acid (Vitamin B9) used to treat megaloblastic anaemia due to folate deficiency. It is also used in the prevention of neural tube defects during pregnancy, and in patients on methotrexate or antiepileptic therapy.
Ingredients
- Folic acid 5 mg
Direction
Adults and children: Dosage depends on indication. For megaloblastic anaemia: 5 mg once daily for 4 months (up to 15 mg/day if malabsorption). For pregnancy prophylaxis, 400 mcg/day (lower dose) or 5 mg/day in high-risk individuals. Follow physician's instructions.
Side effects
- Uncommon: nausea
- flatulence
- bitter taste.
- Rare: allergic reactions (skin rash
- pruritus).
- Very rarely: anaphylaxis with parenteral use.
Precautions
- Folic acid should not be given alone when vitamin B12 deficiency has not been excluded — may correct anaemia but can worsen neurological damage.
- Use with caution in patients with undiagnosed anaemia.
- High doses should be used under medical supervision only.
- May reduce phenytoin and phenobarbital levels — monitor anticonvulsant therapy.
