Indication

Proméphac 25 mg contains promethazine, a first-generation antihistamine and phenothiazine derivative. It is used for relief of allergic conditions (urticaria, hay fever), motion sickness, nausea and vomiting, and as a pre-operative sedative.

Ingredients

• Promethazine HCl 25 mg

Direction

Adults: 25 mg orally at bedtime, or 12.5–25 mg up to 3 times daily for allergic symptoms. For motion sickness: 25 mg taken 1 hour before travel, then every 8–12 hours as needed. Follow prescriber instructions. Children: dosage must be determined by a physician.

Side effects

• Drowsiness and sedation.
• Dry mouth.
• Blurred vision.
• Constipation.
• Dizziness.
• Extrapyramidal reactions (rare
• at high doses).

Precautions

• Contraindicated in children under 2 years due to risk of respiratory depression.
• Use with caution in patients with respiratory disease
• glaucoma
• urinary retention
• or epilepsy.
• Do not combine with other CNS depressants or alcohol.
• Avoid driving or operating machinery.
• Not recommended during pregnancy (especially near term) without medical advice.
• May cause extrapyramidal effects with high doses.
