Indication
Klamoks is a broad-spectrum antibiotic combining amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. It is indicated for bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, ear, sinuses, urinary tract, and skin caused by amoxicillin-resistant, beta-lactamase-producing organisms.
Ingredients
- Amoxicillin 500 mg
- Clavulanic acid 125 mg
Direction
Adults and children over 40 kg: 1 tablet three times daily. Take at the beginning of a meal. Complete the full prescribed course.
Side effects
- Diarrhoea.
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Skin rash.
- Oral/vaginal candidiasis.
- Elevated liver enzymes.
- Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis (rare).
Precautions
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to penicillins or prior jaundice related to this combination.
- Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
- Risk of antibiotic
- associated diarrhoea including pseudomembranous colitis.
- May interact with warfarin (monitor INR).
- Do not use for viral infections.
