Klamoks (Amoxicillin 500 mg + Clavulanic acid 125 mg

Indication

Klamoks is a broad-spectrum antibiotic combining amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. It is indicated for bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, ear, sinuses, urinary tract, and skin caused by amoxicillin-resistant, beta-lactamase-producing organisms.

Ingredients

• Amoxicillin 500 mg
• Clavulanic acid 125 mg

Direction

Adults and children over 40 kg: 1 tablet three times daily. Take at the beginning of a meal. Complete the full prescribed course.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea.
• Nausea and vomiting.
• Skin rash.
• Oral/vaginal candidiasis.
• Elevated liver enzymes.
• Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis (rare).

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to penicillins or prior jaundice related to this combination.
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
• Risk of antibiotic
• associated diarrhoea including pseudomembranous colitis.
• May interact with warfarin (monitor INR).
• Do not use for viral infections.
