CREAFULVINE Griseofulvine (500 mg)

Indication

CREAFULVINE contains griseofulvin, an antifungal antibiotic used for treatment of dermatophyte (ringworm) infections of the skin, hair, and nails that do not respond to topical treatment. Indications include tinea capitis, tinea corporis, tinea pedis, tinea unguium (onychomycosis), and tinea barbae.

Ingredients

• Griseofulvin 500 mg

Direction

Adults: 500 mg daily as a single dose or in divided doses with a fatty meal to enhance absorption. Duration: 2–6 weeks for skin infections; 4–6 months for nail infections. Children: 10 mg/kg/day in divided doses.

Side effects

• Headache.
• Nausea and gastrointestinal discomfort.
• Skin rash and photosensitivity.
• Dizziness and fatigue.
• Urticaria.
• Abnormal liver function tests (rare).

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with hepatic failure
• porphyria
• or hypersensitivity to griseofulvin.
• May cause photosensitivity
• avoid excessive sun exposure.
• May interact with warfarin (reduced anticoagulant effect)
• oral contraceptives (reduced efficacy)
• and ciclosporin.
• Not recommended during pregnancy (teratogenic in animals).
• Males should avoid fathering a child during and for 6 months after treatment.
• May impair driving ability.
