OFLOCET 200 mg

Indication

OFLOCET contains ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used for treatment of urinary tract infections (including complicated UTIs), lower respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, sexually transmitted infections (gonorrhoea, chlamydia), and eye and ear infections.

Ingredients

• Ofloxacin 200 mg

Direction

Adults: 200–400 mg twice daily for 5–10 days depending on the infection. Take with plenty of water; may be taken with or without food.

Side effects

• Nausea and gastrointestinal discomfort.
• Diarrhoea.
• Headache and dizziness.
• Photosensitivity.
• Tendinitis or tendon rupture (rare but serious).
• CNS effects (insomnia
• restlessness).
• Allergic reactions.

Precautions

• Not recommended in children and adolescents under 18 years (risk of cartilage damage).
• Risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture
• discontinue if tendon pain occurs.
• QT prolongation risk
• avoid in patients with pre
• existing arrhythmia.
• May lower seizure threshold
• use with caution in epileptics.
• Avoid excessive sun exposure (photosensitivity).
• Antacids
• dairy products
• and iron reduce absorption — take at least 2 hours apart.
• Not recommended in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
