Clamoxyl Amoxicillin 500 mg

Indication

Clamoxyl contains amoxicillin, a broad-spectrum aminopenicillin antibiotic used for treatment of bacterial infections including ear, nose and throat infections, lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin infections, and H. pylori eradication (in combination).

Ingredients

• Amoxicillin trihydrate 500 mg

Direction

Adults and children over 40 kg: 250–500 mg every 8 hours (3 times daily) or 500 mg–1 g every 12 hours for 5–14 days. Children under 40 kg: 40–90 mg/kg/day in divided doses, as directed by a physician. Take with or without food.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea (common).
• Nausea and vomiting.
• Skin rash.
• Candidiasis (oral or vaginal).
• Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis (rare).
• Elevated liver enzymes.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with penicillin hypersensitivity.
• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment.
• May cause maculopapular rash (especially in patients with glandular fever).
• Risk of Clostridium difficile
• associated diarrhoea.
• Complete the full prescribed course.
• Not effective against beta
• lactamase
• producing organisms.
