Indication
STARCEF 200 contains cefixime, a third-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic used for treatment of urinary tract infections, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, gonorrhoea, and typhoid fever.
Ingredients
- Cefixime 200 mg
Direction
Adults and children over 50 kg: 200β400 mg once daily or in two divided doses for 7β14 days. Children under 50 kg: 8 mg/kg/day in one or two divided doses. Take with or without food.
Side effects
- Diarrhoea (common).
- Nausea and abdominal discomfort.
- Skin rash.
- Elevated liver enzymes.
- Allergic reactions (rare).
Precautions
- Use with caution in patients with penicillin allergy (cross
- reactivity possible).
- Dose adjustment in renal impairment.
- Risk of antibiotic
- associated diarrhoea.
- Complete the full prescribed course.
- May interact with anticoagulants (warfarin).
