Itrahealth-100 Itraconazole 100 mg

Indication

Itrahealth-100 contains itraconazole, a triazole antifungal agent used for treatment of fungal infections including onychomycosis (nail fungus), tinea (ringworm of skin, scalp, foot), pityriasis versicolor, oral and oesophageal candidiasis, aspergillosis, histoplasmosis, and blastomycosis.

Ingredients

• Itraconazole 100 mg

Direction

Adults: For tinea/pityriasis versicolor: 200 mg once daily for 7 days. For oral candidiasis: 100 mg once daily for 15 days. For onychomycosis (pulse therapy): 200 mg twice daily for 1 week per month, for 2–3 months. Take immediately after a meal (food enhances absorption).

Side effects

• Nausea and gastrointestinal discomfort.
• Headache.
• Elevated liver enzymes (common).
• Skin rash.
• Hypokalaemia.
• Peripheral oedema.
• Allergic reactions (rare).

Precautions

• Contraindicated with many drugs (potent CYP3A4 inhibitor): cisapride
• terfenadine
• midazolam
• triazolam
• simvastatin
• lovastatin
• ergotamine
• quinidine.
• Contraindicated in patients with ventricular dysfunction (negative inotropic effect).
• Not recommended in pregnancy or women planning pregnancy.
• Use with caution in hepatic impairment
• monitor liver function.
• Many drug interactions — always review for interactions.
• Absorption reduced with antacids or H2 blockers — take 2 hours before.
