Fluzoral Fluconazole 200 mg

Indication

Fluzoral contains fluconazole, a triazole antifungal used for treatment of vaginal candidiasis, oropharyngeal and oesophageal candidiasis, systemic candida infections, cryptococcal meningitis, and prophylaxis of fungal infections in immunocompromised patients.

Ingredients

• Fluconazole 200 mg

Direction

Adults: For vaginal candidiasis: 150 mg as a single dose. For oropharyngeal candidiasis: 200 mg on day 1, then 100 mg once daily for 2 weeks. For systemic infections: 400 mg on day 1, then 200–400 mg once daily. Duration depends on indication and clinical response.

Side effects

• Nausea and gastrointestinal discomfort.
• Headache.
• Skin rash.
• Elevated liver enzymes.
• QT prolongation (rare).
• Alopecia (with prolonged treatment).
• Serious hepatic reactions (rare).

Precautions

• Many drug interactions (CYP2C9/3A4 inhibitor): warfarin
• phenytoin
• sulfonylureas
• ciclosporin
• tacrolimus.
• QT prolongation risk — avoid in patients with arrhythmia or taking QT
• prolonging drugs.
• Monitor liver function with prolonged use.
• Use with caution in renal impairment (dose reduction).
• Not recommended in pregnancy (especially multiple doses — teratogenic risk).
• Contraindicated with terfenadine (if fluconazole dose ≥ 400 mg/day).
