Claritek 125mg / 5mL

Indication

Claritek is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat mild to moderate bacterial infections including community-acquired pneumonia, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis, skin and soft tissue infections, and Helicobacter pylori eradication (as part of combination therapy).

Ingredients

• Clarithromycin 125 mg per 5 mL (oral suspension)

Direction

Adults: 250–500 mg every 12 hours for 7–14 days depending on the infection. Children (over 6 months): 7.5 mg/kg twice daily (max 500 mg per dose) for 5–10 days. Shake suspension well before use.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• abdominal pain
• and diarrhea (common).
• Abnormal taste (metallic taste) (common).
• Headache.
• Elevated liver enzymes (uncommon).
• Allergic reactions including rash (uncommon).
• QT prolongation (rare).

Precautions

• Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to clarithromycin
• erythromycin
• or other macrolide antibiotics.
• Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic or renal impairment.
• May prolong QT interval
• caution in patients with cardiac arrhythmias.
• May interact with many medications (statins
• anticoagulants
• antifungals
• etc.) — check interactions carefully.
• Discontinue use and contact physician if severe diarrhea
• which may indicate Clostridioides difficile
• associated disease.
• Keep out of reach of children.
