Glucophage 1000 mg

Indication

Glucophage 1000 mg (metformin) is a biguanide antidiabetic agent used for management of type 2 diabetes mellitus, reducing hepatic glucose output and improving peripheral insulin sensitivity.

Ingredients

• Metformin Hydrochloride 1000 mg (film
• coated tablet)

Direction

Adults: 1000 mg twice daily with meals. Total daily dose should not exceed 3000 mg. Take with or immediately after meals to reduce gastrointestinal effects. Adjust dose based on blood glucose monitoring.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhea
• and abdominal discomfort (common at start
• take with food).
• Metallic taste.
• Lactic acidosis (rare but serious — risk factors include renal impairment and alcoholism).
• Long
• term use may reduce Vitamin B12 absorption.
• Hypoglycaemia does not occur when used as monotherapy.

Precautions

• Do not use in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min)
• hepatic impairment
• or conditions predisposing to hypoxia.
• Temporarily discontinue around procedures using iodinated contrast media.
• Avoid in diabetic ketoacidosis.
• Alcohol increases the risk of lactic acidosis.
• Monitor renal function regularly.
• Keep out of reach of children.
