Lostad Plus Losartan potassium 50 mg + Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg

Indication

Lostad Plus is a combination antihypertensive used for the treatment of essential hypertension in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by losartan or hydrochlorothiazide alone. Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) and hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic.

Ingredients

• Losartan Potassium 50 mg
• Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg

Direction

Adults: one tablet (50 mg/12.5 mg) once daily. May be increased to 100 mg/25 mg once daily if needed. Take with or without food.

Side effects

• Dizziness and hypotension (especially at initiation).
• Hyperkalaemia (losartan) or hypokalaemia (thiazide).
• Elevated serum uric acid and gout flares.
• Fatigue and weakness.
• Electrolyte imbalances.
• Cough (less common with ARBs than ACE inhibitors).

Precautions

• Do not use in patients hypersensitive to losartan
• hydrochlorothiazide
• or sulfonamide
• derived drugs.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy (second and third trimester).
• Do not use in patients with severe renal impairment
• anuria
• or Addison's disease.
• Monitor electrolytes
• renal function
• and blood pressure.
• Caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
• Keep out of reach of children.
