Sotalex® 80 mg

Indication

Treatment of life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias and maintenance of normal sinus rhythm in patients with atrial fibrillation or flutter.

Ingredients

• Sotalol hydrochloride 80 mg

Direction

Adults: The usual starting dose is 80 mg twice daily, titrated under medical supervision as required. Doses must be individualized and adjusted based on clinical response and QTc interval monitoring. Must be initiated and dose increases performed in a monitored hospital setting.

Side effects

• Bradycardia (slow heart rate).
• Fatigue and dizziness.
• Dyspnoea (shortness of breath).
• Pro
• arrhythmia including torsades de pointes.
• Hypotension.
• Nausea and vomiting.
• Cold extremities.

Precautions

• Must not be stopped suddenly — taper gradually under medical supervision.
• Contraindicated in bradycardia
• cardiogenic shock
• uncontrolled heart failure
• QTc interval >450 ms
• hypokalemia
• hypomagnesemia
• and severe renal impairment.
• Regular ECG and electrolyte monitoring required.

• arrhythmic effects including torsades de pointes.
• Caution with drugs that prolong QT interval.
• Avoid in asthma or severe COPD.
• Use with caution in diabetes — may mask hypoglycemia symptoms.
