Indication

Treatment of inflammatory and allergic conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, bronchial asthma, allergic disorders, skin diseases, and collagen vascular diseases.

Ingredients

• Methylprednisolone 4 mg

Direction

Adults: Initial dose 4–48 mg/day depending on condition severity, given in single or divided doses. Maintenance: Lowest effective dose. Dosing should be individualised and tapered gradually when discontinuing after prolonged use.

Side effects

• Fluid retention and weight gain.
• Hyperglycaemia.
• Insomnia.
• Mood changes and irritability.
• Osteoporosis (long
• term use).
• Susceptibility to infections.
• Cushingoid appearance (moon face
• weight gain) with long
• term use.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in systemic fungal infections and live vaccine administration.
• Long
• term use may cause adrenal suppression — do not discontinue abruptly.
• Risk of serious infections
• may mask signs of infection.
• Risk of osteoporosis with prolonged use — consider calcium and vitamin D supplementation.
• Monitor blood glucose — may cause hyperglycaemia.
• Use with caution in peptic ulcer disease
