COVERAM Perindopril arginine 5mg / Amlodipine 5mg

Indication

COVERAM is a combination antihypertensive medicine containing an ACE inhibitor (perindopril) and a calcium channel blocker (amlodipine). It is used for the treatment of essential hypertension (high blood pressure) and stable coronary artery disease in patients already controlled on both individual components.

Ingredients

• Perindopril arginine 5 mg
• Amlodipine 5 mg

Direction

Adults: 1 tablet once daily, preferably in the morning before a meal. The dose is fixed and should not be altered without medical advice. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and kidney function is recommended.

Side effects

• Dry
• persistent cough (due to ACE inhibitor component).
• Peripheral oedema (ankle swelling
• due to amlodipine).
• Headache.
• Dizziness.
• Flushing.
• Fatigue.
• Hypotension (low blood pressure)
• especially after the first dose.
• Elevated serum potassium (hyperkalaemia).
• Angioedema (rare but serious).

Precautions

• Do not use in patients with a history of angioedema related to ACE inhibitor therapy.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy
• especially second and third trimester.
• Contraindicated in combination with aliskiren in patients with diabetes or renal impairment.
• Monitor renal function
• electrolytes (especially potassium)
• and blood pressure regularly.
• May cause a dry cough (due to perindopril)
• inform your doctor.
• Avoid potassium supplements or potassium
• sparing diuretics unless directed.
• Avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice.
• Keep out of reach of children.
