Claritek Clarithromycin 500mg

Indication

Claritek (clarithromycin) is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis), skin and soft tissue infections, H. pylori eradication (in combination therapy), and Mycobacterium avium complex infections.

Ingredients

• Clarithromycin 500 mg

Direction

Adults: 250–500 mg twice daily for 7–14 days (depending on condition), or as prescribed. Take with or without food. Complete the full course.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal discomfort — common.
• Taste disturbances (metallic taste) — common.
• Headache — uncommon.
• Liver enzyme elevation — uncommon.
• QT prolongation — rare but serious.

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to macrolide antibiotics.
• Use with caution in patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment.
• Can prolong QT interval — avoid in patients with cardiac arrhythmias.
• Multiple drug interactions — inform doctor of all medications.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Do not use in pregnancy unless absolutely necessary.
