Indication

Metro-MS 250 (metronidazole) is an antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent used to treat anaerobic bacterial infections, protozoal infections (amoebiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis), and H. pylori eradication in combination therapy.

Ingredients

• Metronidazole 250 mg

Direction

Adults: 250–500 mg three times daily for 5–10 days depending on indication. Take with food to reduce nausea. Follow the prescriber's instructions.

Side effects

• Nausea
• metallic taste — very common.
• Headache
• dizziness — common.
• Dark urine — common (harmless).
• Peripheral neuropathy — with prolonged use.
• Seizures — rare.

Precautions

• Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 48 hours after — causes severe disulfiram
• like reaction.
• Contraindicated in first trimester of pregnancy.
• Use with caution in severe hepatic impairment.
• May interact with warfarin (increased anticoagulation effect) — monitor INR.
• Keep out of reach of children.
