Tetra-MS 500 500mg

Indication

Tetra-MS 500 (tetracycline) is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat acne, respiratory tract infections, sexually transmitted infections (chlamydia, gonorrhoea), Lyme disease, cholera, and infections caused by Rickettsiae.

Ingredients

• Tetracycline hydrochloride 500 mg

Direction

Adults: 250–500 mg four times daily (every 6 hours). Take on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Avoid dairy products, antacids, and iron supplements within 2 hours of dosing. Complete the full course.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea — common.
• Photosensitivity — common.
• Oesophageal irritation — take with plenty of water.
• Permanent tooth staining in children under 8.
• Hepatotoxicity — with high doses.

Precautions

• Do not use in children under 8 years — causes permanent tooth discolouration and affects bone development.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Avoid exposure to sunlight — photosensitivity.
• Do not take with dairy products
• antacids
• iron
• or calcium — reduces absorption.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Check expiry date — expired tetracycline can be toxic.
