COVERAM 5mg/5mg Perindopril arginine 5mg + Amlodipine 5mg

Indication

COVERAM is a fixed-dose combination antihypertensive. Perindopril is an ACE inhibitor that relaxes blood vessels; amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that reduces peripheral vascular resistance. Used to treat essential hypertension in adults when monotherapy provides inadequate control.

Ingredients

• Perindopril arginine 5 mg
• Amlodipine 5 mg

Direction

Adults: Take one tablet once daily, preferably in the morning, with or without food. The combination is initiated after individual dose titration. Swallow whole with water. Do not exceed the prescribed dose.

Side effects

• Dry persistent cough (ACE inhibitor class effect)
• Peripheral oedema (ankle swelling — amlodipine)
• Headache
• dizziness
• Flushing
• Hypotension
• Angioedema (rare but serious — seek emergency care)

Precautions

• Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to perindopril
• other ACE inhibitors
• amlodipine
• or dihydropyridines.
• Contraindicated with history of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor use.
• Contraindicated in second and third trimester of pregnancy — can cause fetal/neonatal morbidity and death.
• Do not co
• administer with aliskiren in patients with diabetes or renal impairment.
• Risk of hypotension in volume
• depleted patients
• patients on diuretics
• or those with heart failure.
• Monitor renal function and serum potassium regularly
• especially in patients with renal impairment.
• ACE inhibitors may cause first
• dose hypotension
• dry persistent cough
• and rarely angioedema.
• Avoid concomitant use of potassium
• sparing diuretics or potassium supplements.
