Acide FOLIQUE Folic Acid 5mg

Indication

Folic acid 5 mg (Acide Folique) is used to treat and prevent folate-deficiency megaloblastic anaemia, and as a supplement before and during early pregnancy in women at high risk of neural tube defects. Also used as supplementation for patients on antifolate medications.

• Folic acid 5 mg

Direction

Adults: For folate-deficiency anaemia — 5 mg once daily for up to 4 months. For prevention of neural tube defects in high-risk women — 5 mg daily starting at least 4 weeks before conception and continuing through the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Other indications as directed by physician.

Side effects

• Rarely: mild gastrointestinal upset
• Allergic reactions (very rare)

Precautions

• Do not use for pernicious anaemia without also treating vitamin B12 deficiency — neurological damage may progress.
• May reduce efficacy of anticonvulsants such as phenytoin or phenobarbitone — use under medical supervision in epilepsy.
• Do not exceed recommended dose without medical supervision.
