Clamoxyl Amoxicillin

Indication

Clamoxyl (amoxicillin, GSK) is a broad-spectrum aminopenicillin antibiotic used to treat respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin infections, ear infections, dental infections, and H. pylori eradication as part of combination therapy.

Ingredients

Direction

Adults: Standard dose 250–500 mg three times daily or 500–1000 mg twice daily depending on the severity of the infection. Children: Dose based on body weight (25–45 mg/kg/day in divided doses) as directed by physician. Take with or without food.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea
• nausea
• vomiting
• Skin rash
• Oral/vaginal candidiasis
• Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis (rare)

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to amoxicillin or other penicillins.
• Use with caution if history of allergy to cephalosporins (cross
• reactivity risk < 2%).
• Risk of anaphylaxis — seek emergency care if rash

• May cause antibiotic
• associated diarrhoea or C. difficile colitis.
• May reduce efficacy of oral contraceptives.
• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment.
• Consult a doctor before use in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
