Indication
AMOKLAVIN-BID-625 is a broad-spectrum antibiotic combining amoxicillin with the beta-lactamase inhibitor clavulanic acid. It is used for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible beta-lactamase-producing organisms, including sinusitis, community-acquired pneumonia, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and dental infections.
Ingredients
- Amoxicillin trihydrate equivalent to Amoxicillin 500 mg
- Clavulanic acid (as potassium clavulanate) 125 mg
Direction
Adults and children over 12 years: 1 tablet (625 mg) every 12 hours (twice daily). Take at the start of a meal to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Complete the full course as prescribed (usually 5β10 days).
Side effects
- Diarrhoea (most common).
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Abdominal pain.
- Skin rash or urticaria.
- Elevated liver enzymes.
- Cholestatic hepatitis (rare but serious).
- Candidiasis (oral or vaginal).
- Severe allergic reactions including anaphylaxis (rare).
Precautions
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to penicillins
- cephalosporins
- or any beta
- lactam antibiotic.
- Use with caution in patients with a history of antibiotic
- associated colitis.
- Use with caution in severe hepatic impairment
- avoid if previous cholestatic jaundice with amoxicillin/clavulanate.
- Complete the full prescribed course
- do not stop early even if feeling better.
- May affect INR in patients on warfarin
- monitor carefully.
- Keep out of reach of children.
