Indication

Amoklavin-BID (Amoxicillin 200 mg + Clavulanic acid 28 mg) is an aminopenicillin antibiotic combined with a beta-lactamase inhibitor, used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis, otitis media), urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections caused by susceptible beta-lactamase-producing organisms.

Ingredients

• Amoxicillin 200 mg
• Clavulanic acid 28 mg

Direction

Dose based on amoxicillin component. Adults: 500–875 mg amoxicillin component every 8–12 hours depending on severity. Children: 25–45 mg/kg/day amoxicillin component in divided doses. Take at the start of a meal to reduce GI side effects. Complete the full course.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea
• nausea
• vomiting (most common — less frequent when taken with food).
• Rash
• urticaria.
• Cholestatic jaundice (rare).
• Pseudomembranous colitis (rare).
• Anaphylaxis (rare).

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to penicillins
• cephalosporins
• or other beta
• lactam antibiotics.
• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment — dose adjustment required.
• History of amoxicillin
• clavulanate
• associated cholestatic jaundice is a contraindication.
• May interact with warfarin
• methotrexate
• and oral contraceptives.
• Complete the full prescribed course.
• Keep out of reach of children.
