Indication

Lidocaine 2% injection (20 mg/mL) is a local anaesthetic used for infiltration anaesthesia, nerve block, epidural anaesthesia, and other regional anaesthetic procedures in adults and children.

Ingredients

• Lidocaine hydrochloride 20 mg/mL (2%)

Direction

For administration by trained medical personnel only. Dose depends on the procedure, area to be anaesthetised, and patient body weight. Total dose should not exceed 4.5 mg/kg (without epinephrine) or 7 mg/kg (with epinephrine). Administer by slow injection after aspiration to avoid intravascular injection.

Side effects

• CNS toxicity: dizziness
• tinnitus
• perioral numbness
• convulsions (with excessive systemic levels).
• Cardiovascular toxicity: bradycardia
• hypotension
• cardiac arrest (with high systemic exposure).
• Local injection site reactions.
• Methemoglobinaemia (rare).

Precautions

• For administration by trained healthcare professionals only.
• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lidocaine or other amide
• type local anaesthetics.
• Avoid intravenous injection (risk of systemic toxicity — CNS and cardiac).
• Use with caution in patients with cardiac impairment
