Diabetmin 1000mg

Indication

Diabetmin (Metformin HCl 1000 mg) is an oral antidiabetic agent used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in overweight patients, when diet and exercise alone are insufficient. It may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents or insulin.

Ingredients

• Metformin Hydrochloride 1000 mg

Direction

Adults: Usual dose is 500–1000 mg two to three times daily with or after meals. Dose should be titrated gradually to minimise gastrointestinal side effects. Maximum dose: 3000 mg per day. Take with food.

Side effects

• Very common: nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain (especially at start of treatment).
• Common: metallic taste in the mouth.
• Rare: lactic acidosis (serious — seek immediate medical attention).
• Long
• term use may reduce vitamin B12 absorption
• monitor B12 levels.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²).
• Contraindicated in hepatic impairment
• heart failure
• or respiratory failure.
• Withhold before and 48 hours after administration of iodinated contrast media.
• Risk of lactic acidosis
• discontinue if signs of metabolic acidosis occur.
• Monitor renal function regularly.
• Avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
• Not for use in type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
