Lasilix 40mg

Indication

Lasilix (Furosemide 40 mg) is a loop diuretic used for the treatment of oedema (fluid retention) associated with congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and renal disease, and for the management of hypertension.

Ingredients

• Furosemide 40 mg

Direction

Adults: Initial dose 40 mg once daily in the morning. Dose may be adjusted according to response. For oedema: 20–80 mg daily. For hypertension: 40–80 mg daily. Take orally with water.

Side effects

• Electrolyte imbalance: hypokalaemia
• hyponatraemia
• hypomagnesaemia.
• Dehydration and hypotension
• especially with high doses.
• Dizziness
• headache.
• Nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea.
• Rare: ototoxicity (hearing loss) with high doses or rapid IV administration.
• Hyperuricaemia and gout exacerbation.
• Increased blood glucose (diabetogenic effect).

Precautions

• Contraindicated in anuria and severe renal impairment.
• Contraindicated in hepatic coma or precoma.
• Monitor electrolytes (potassium
• sodium) regularly — risk of hypokalaemia.
• Use with caution in patients with diabetes
• gout
• or prostatic hypertrophy.
• May enhance nephrotoxicity of aminoglycosides and cephalosporins.
• Avoid concurrent use with lithium.
• Use with caution in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
