Suptiricin (Supirocin) Ointment Mupirocin 2%, 5g

Indication

Suptiricin (Mupirocin 2%) Ointment is a topical antibiotic used for the treatment of primary bacterial skin infections such as impetigo, folliculitis, furunculosis, and secondarily infected traumatic lesions (cuts, abrasions, lacerations). It is active against Staphylococcus aureus (including MRSA) and Streptococcus pyogenes.

• Mupirocin 2%

Direction

Adults and children: Apply a small amount to the affected area up to three times daily for 5–10 days. Cover with an occlusive dressing if required. Wash hands before and after application.

Side effects

• Rare: contact dermatitis or skin rash.
• Rare: allergic reactions.

Precautions

• For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
• Do not use on large open wounds or burns.
• Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of non
• susceptible organisms.
• Avoid use in nasal cavity without specific nasal formulation.
• Consult a doctor if no improvement after 3–5 days.
