Indication

Dosmectine (Diosmectite) is an intestinal adsorbent used for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhoea in adults and children, and chronic diarrhoea associated with irritable bowel syndrome or inflammatory bowel conditions. It adsorbs toxins, bacteria, and viruses in the gut.

Ingredients

• Diosmectite (dioctahedral smectite) 3 g per sachet

Direction

Adults: 3 sachets (9 g) per day in acute diarrhoea. Children under 1 year: 1 sachet per day; 1–2 years: 1–2 sachets per day; over 2 years: 2–3 sachets per day. Dissolve the contents of each sachet in half a glass of water and stir. Take 1 hour before or after other medications.

Side effects

• Constipation (with high doses or prolonged use).
• Mild abdominal discomfort.

Precautions

• Take at least 1 hour apart from other medications
• as diosmectite may reduce their absorption.
• Consult a doctor if diarrhoea persists beyond 48 hours or if blood is present in the stool.
• Maintain adequate fluid and electrolyte intake during diarrhoea.
• Keep out of reach of children.
