Nystatine 500000 UI

Indication

Nystatin is a polyene antifungal used for the treatment and prevention of candidiasis (fungal infections caused by Candida species), including oral thrush, intestinal candidiasis, and vaginal candidiasis.

Ingredients

• Nystatin 500
• 000 IU per tablet/unit

Direction

Oral candidiasis: 500,000 IU (1 tablet) 3–4 times daily. Intestinal candidiasis: 500,000–1,000,000 IU three times daily. Continue for at least 48 hours after symptoms resolve. For oral use: hold tablet in the mouth as long as possible before swallowing, or dissolve if oral suspension.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• and diarrhoea (at high doses).
• Abdominal pain.
• Skin irritation or rash (rare).

Precautions

• Nystatin tablets are not absorbed systemically — for intestinal and oral use only.
• Do not use for systemic fungal infections (nystatin is not absorbed through the gut).
• Consult a doctor if symptoms do not improve within 7–14 days.
• Keep out of reach of children.
