Indication
Nystatin is a polyene antifungal used for the treatment and prevention of candidiasis (fungal infections caused by Candida species), including oral thrush, intestinal candidiasis, and vaginal candidiasis.
Ingredients
- Nystatin 500
- 000 IU per tablet/unit
Direction
Oral candidiasis: 500,000 IU (1 tablet) 3–4 times daily. Intestinal candidiasis: 500,000–1,000,000 IU three times daily. Continue for at least 48 hours after symptoms resolve. For oral use: hold tablet in the mouth as long as possible before swallowing, or dissolve if oral suspension.
Side effects
- Nausea
- vomiting
- and diarrhoea (at high doses).
- Abdominal pain.
- Skin irritation or rash (rare).
Precautions
- Nystatin tablets are not absorbed systemically — for intestinal and oral use only.
- Do not use for systemic fungal infections (nystatin is not absorbed through the gut).
- Consult a doctor if symptoms do not improve within 7–14 days.
- Keep out of reach of children.
