Frocip Syrup 60ml

Indication

Frocip Syrup is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used in the treatment of susceptible bacterial infections including urinary tract infections, lower respiratory tract infections, enteric fever (typhoid), infectious diarrhoea, and certain skin and soft tissue infections, primarily in children.

Ingredients

• Ciprofloxacin 250 mg/5 mL (as oral suspension)

Direction

Dose is determined by the prescribing physician based on body weight and the type of infection. A typical paediatric dose is 5–15 mg/kg twice daily. Shake the bottle well before use. Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• and abdominal discomfort.
• Headache and dizziness.
• Skin rash or urticaria.
• Elevated liver enzymes.
• Tendinitis or tendon rupture (rare but serious).
• Photosensitivity reactions.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other fluoroquinolones.
• Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures or CNS disorders.
• Not recommended as first
• line treatment in prepubertal children unless benefits outweigh risks
• due to potential effects on developing cartilage.
• May prolong the QT interval
• avoid in patients with cardiac arrhythmias or on QT
• prolonging drugs.
• Avoid concurrent use with antacids containing magnesium or aluminium
• as they reduce absorption.
• Increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture
• especially in elderly patients or those on corticosteroids.
• Ensure adequate hydration to prevent crystalluria.
