Lostad Plus 50mg/12.5mg

Indication

Lostad Plus is a combination antihypertensive used for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by either losartan or hydrochlorothiazide alone. It reduces the risk of stroke and cardiovascular events in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy.

Ingredients

• Losartan potassium 50 mg
• Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg

Direction

Adults: One tablet (Losartan 50 mg / Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg) once daily, with or without food. The dose may be increased to Losartan 100 mg / Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg once daily if blood pressure control is insufficient, as directed by a physician.

Side effects

• Dizziness
• especially on starting treatment or with dose increases.
• Hypokalaemia (low potassium).
• Upper respiratory tract infections.
• Elevated blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine.
• Fatigue and asthenia.
• Headache.
• Hyperuricaemia or gout.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in pregnancy (all trimesters) — can cause fetal injury or death.
• Contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment or anuria.
• Contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
• Do not use concomitantly with aliskiren
• containing products in patients with diabetes or renal impairment.
• Monitor serum electrolytes
• renal function
• and blood pressure regularly.
• Use with caution in patients with bilateral renal artery stenosis.
• May cause hypokalaemia
• hyponatraemia
• or hyperuricaemia.
• Hydrochlorothiazide may aggravate or precipitate gout.
