Erycyl 250mg

Indication

Erycyl (Erythromycin) is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis, whooping cough), skin and soft tissue infections, urinary tract infections, and as an alternative for patients allergic to penicillin.

Ingredients

• Erythromycin 250 mg

Direction

Adults: 250–500 mg every 6 hours (1–2 g per day). Children: 30–50 mg/kg per day divided into 4 doses. Take on an empty stomach or with food if gastrointestinal upset occurs. Complete the full course even if feeling better.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• abdominal pain
• diarrhea (most common)
• Cholestatic jaundice with prolonged use
• QT prolongation and cardiac arrhythmias (rare)
• Hearing loss with high doses (rare
• reversible)

Precautions

• Use with caution in patients with liver impairment.
• May interact with many medications — inform physician of all current medications.
• Can prolong QT interval — use with caution in patients with cardiac arrhythmia.
• Avoid concurrent use with statins (simvastatin
• lovastatin) — increased risk of myopathy.
• Take full prescribed course — do not stop early even if symptoms improve.
• Keep out of reach of children.
