Indication
Provision of carbohydrate calories and treatment of hypoglycemia; used in oral rehydration or IV fluid therapy.
Ingredients
- Dextrose (Glucose)
Direction
Oral: dissolve in water and drink as directed. IV: administered by a healthcare professional only at the prescribed concentration and rate.
Side effects
- Hyperglycemia with excessive administration.
- Fluid overload.
- Electrolyte dilution with large volume administration.
- Local phlebitis at IV injection site.
Precautions
- IV administration must be performed by trained healthcare personnel.
- Use with caution in diabetic patients.
- Monitor blood glucose levels during IV infusion.
- Do not use IV formulation if solution is cloudy or contains visible particles.
- Keep out of reach of children.
