Gastro-Resistant Omeprazole Capsule BP 20 mg Not available

Indication
Treatment of GERD, peptic ulcer, H. pylori eradication, prevention of NSAID-induced ulcers
Direction
Take one capsule once daily before a meal. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew.
Side effects
- Headache
- nausea
- diarrhea
- abdominal pain. Long
- term: vitamin B12 deficiency.
Precautions
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to omeprazole
- other proton pump inhibitors
- or any excipients.
- Exclude malignancy before treating gastric symptoms
- as omeprazole may mask symptoms of gastric cancer.
- Long
- term use (more than 1 year) is associated with increased risk of bone fractures (hip
- wrist
- spine)
- consider calcium and vitamin D supplementation in at
- risk patients.
- Proton pump inhibitors may increase the risk of Clostridium difficile
- associated diarrhoea.
- Hypomagnesaemia has been reported with prolonged use
- monitor magnesium levels in patients on long
- term therapy or taking digoxin or medications known to cause hypomagnesaemia.
- May reduce the efficacy of clopidogrel
- avoid concomitant use if possible.
- Reduces absorption of drugs dependent on gastric acidity (e.g.
- ketoconazole
- itraconazole
- erlotinib
- iron salts
- vitamin B12).
- Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment
- dose adjustment may be required.
- Subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) has been reported rarely
- discontinue if SCLE occurs.
- Keep out of reach of children.
