Indication

Antibiotic for serious bacterial infections

Ingredients

• Lincomycin 500mg

Direction

Adults: 500 mg (1 capsule) every 6–8 hours. Children: 30–60 mg/kg/day in 3–4 divided doses. Take on an empty stomach (1–2 hours before a meal) with a full glass of water. Complete the full prescribed course.

Side effects

• Common: nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain.
• Serious: pseudomembranous colitis (CDAD) — can be fatal if untreated.
• Rare: allergic skin reactions (rash
• urticaria).
• Rare: hepatotoxicity
• jaundice.
• Rare: blood dyscrasias (neutropenia
• thrombocytopenia).
• Rare: Stevens
• Johnson syndrome.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lincomycin or clindamycin.
• Serious colitis
• including Clostridioides difficile
• associated diarrhoea (CDAD)
• may occur — discontinue if severe diarrhoea develops.
• Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease.
• Renal and hepatic impairment: dose adjustment may be required.
• May cause neuromuscular blockade — use cautiously with anaesthetic agents.
• Keep out of reach of children.
