Indication

Oral rehydration for diarrhea and dehydration

Ingredients

• Sodium chloride
• Potassium chloride
• Sodium citrate
• Glucose

Direction

Adults and children over 12 years: dissolve 1 sachet in 200 ml of clean drinking water and drink slowly. Repeat after each loose stool. Children 2–12 years: dissolve 1 sachet in 200 ml of water; give in small sips over 2–4 hours. Children under 2 years: use only under medical supervision. Continue until diarrhoea resolves.

Side effects

• Generally well tolerated.
• Nausea or vomiting may occur if the solution is drunk too quickly.
• Hypernatraemia or hyperkalaemia with excessive intake in patients with renal impairment.

Precautions

• Do not use in patients with severe dehydration
• vomiting that prevents oral intake
• or intestinal obstruction — seek medical attention.
• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment or conditions requiring restricted sodium or potassium intake.
• Do not dissolve in milk
• juice
• or other liquids — use clean water only.
• Consult a doctor if dehydration does not improve within 24 hours or if symptoms worsen.
• Keep out of reach of children.
