Indication
Anti-inflammatory, analgesic for arthritis and musculoskeletal pain
Ingredients
- Piroxicam 20mg
Direction
Adults: the usual dose is 20 mg once daily, preferably taken at the same time each day. The maximum recommended daily dose is 20 mg. Treatment should be limited to the shortest effective duration. Take with food or milk to reduce gastrointestinal upset. Do not use in children.
Side effects
- Gastrointestinal: nausea
- dyspepsia
- abdominal pain
- constipation
- diarrhoea
- peptic ulcer
- gastrointestinal bleeding.
- Cardiovascular: oedema
- hypertension.
- Renal: fluid retention
- decreased renal function.
- CNS: dizziness
- headache.
- Skin: rash
- rarely Stevens
- Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis.
- Hepatic: elevated liver enzymes.
Precautions
- Contraindicated in patients with active peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding.
- Contraindicated in patients with severe renal
- hepatic
- or heart failure.
- Contraindicated in the third trimester of pregnancy.
- Not for use in children and adolescents under 18 years.
- Use with caution in elderly patients β increased risk of gastrointestinal
- cardiovascular
- and renal adverse effects.
- Avoid concurrent use with other NSAIDs
- anticoagulants
- corticosteroids
- lithium
- or methotrexate.
- May mask signs of infection.
- Long
- term use increases risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events
- myocardial infarction
- and stroke.
- Keep out of reach of children.
