Indication

- Treatment of bacterial respiratory tract infections including pneumonia - Treatment of urinary tract and abdominal infections - Treatment of skin, bone and joint infections - Treatment of meningitis and gonorrhoea - Surgical infection prophylaxis

Ingredients

• Ceftriaxone 1000 mg (1 g)

Direction

Administered by a healthcare professional as an intravenous or intramuscular injection after reconstitution. Dose and duration depend on the infection. Do not reconstitute or mix with calcium-containing solutions such as Ringer's or Hartmann's.

Side effects

• Pain
• swelling or hardness at the injection site
• Diarrhea or loose stools
• Nausea
• Skin rash
• Changes in liver function tests

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to ceftriaxone or other cephalosporin/penicillin antibiotics
• Avoid in neonates receiving calcium
• containing IV products
• Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver disease and history of gastrointestinal disease (colitis)
• May cause severe diarrhea (Clostridioides difficile)
• report watery or bloody stools
