Indication

Treatment of intestinal worm infections (helminths)

Ingredients

• Albendazole + Ivermectin

Direction

Adults (over 15 years): take 1 tablet as a single oral dose, preferably on an empty stomach or as directed by a physician. The exact strength of ivermectin determines dosing — follow prescriber or package insert instructions. Repeat dosing for certain parasitic infections may be required after 2 weeks. Children: dosing is weight-based — consult a physician.

Side effects

• Albendazole: nausea
• abdominal pain
• elevated liver enzymes
• headache
• dizziness
• rarely alopecia or bone marrow suppression with prolonged use.
• Ivermectin: dizziness
• nausea
• diarrhoea
• skin rash
• pruritus
• oedema.
• Mazzotti reaction (ivermectin in onchocerciasis): fever
• rash
• arthralgia
• hypotension.

Precautions

• Do not use in children under 2 years or weighing less than 15 kg.
• Do not use in pregnant women unless the benefit clearly outweighs the risk (albendazole is teratogenic — Category D).
• Avoid breastfeeding during treatment and for 5 days after the last dose.
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.

• type reaction may occur in patients with onchocerciasis treated with ivermectin.
• Ivermectin may interact with drugs that affect P
• glycoprotein (e.g. certain antivirals).
• Avoid alcohol during albendazole treatment.
• Consult a physician for treatment of children.
• Keep out of reach of children.
