Indication
Treatment of severe recalcitrant nodular acne that has not responded to conventional therapy including systemic antibiotics. Also used for severe forms of acne such as nodulocystic acne and acne conglobata.
Ingredients
- Isotretinoin USP 10 mg
Direction
As directed by physician. Usual dose: 0.5 mg/kg body weight per day in two divided doses, taken with food. Maintenance dose 0.1-1 mg/kg/day. Typical treatment course is 16-20 weeks. See enclosed leaflet.
Side effects
- Dry lips and mouth (cheilitis)
- Dry skin and pruritus
- Dry eyes and conjunctivitis
- Nosebleeds (epistaxis)
- Muscle and joint pain
- Elevated blood lipids
- Headache
- Photosensitivity
- Hair thinning
- Liver enzyme elevation
Precautions
- Contraindicated in pregnancy
- causes severe birth defects
- Women of childbearing age must use effective contraception before
- during
- and at least 1 month after treatment
- Not for use during breastfeeding
- Avoid blood donation during and 1 month after treatment
- Avoid concurrent use of tetracyclines or vitamin A supplements
- Monitor liver function and blood lipids
- Avoid prolonged sun exposure and use sunscreen
- May impair night vision
- caution when driving at night
