Acyclomed Cream 5%

Indication

Topical antiviral for the treatment of Herpes simplex virus infections of the skin and lips, including initial and recurrent genital herpes and herpes labialis (cold sores).

Ingredients

• Aciclovir BP 5% w/w

Direction

Apply to the affected area 5 times daily at approximately 4-hourly intervals, omitting the night-time application. Treatment should begin as early as possible at the first sign of infection (tingling, itching, redness). Continue for at least 5 days; if healing is not complete, treatment may continue for up to 10 days. Use as directed by the physician.

Side effects

• Transient burning or stinging at the application site
• Mild drying or flaking of the skin
• Pruritus (itching)
• Erythema (redness)
• Contact dermatitis (rare)

Precautions

• For external use only
• Avoid contact with eyes
• inside the mouth or nose
• or on the genitals unless directed by a physician
• Wash hands before and after applying the cream
• Do not apply to mucous membranes unless directed
• Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding
