Amdocal Plus 5 mg / 50 mg

Indication

Amdocal Plus 50 is a fixed-dose combination of amlodipine (a dihydropyridine calcium-channel blocker) and atenolol (a cardioselective beta-blocker) used in the management of essential hypertension and chronic stable angina pectoris where monotherapy does not achieve adequate control. The combination lowers blood pressure through complementary mechanisms: vasodilation (amlodipine) and reduction of heart rate and cardiac output (atenolol).

Ingredients

• Amlodipine (as Amlodipine Besilate BP) 5 mg
• Atenolol BP 50 mg

Direction

Adults: one film-coated tablet once daily, or as directed by the physician. Dosage should be individualised based on response and tolerability. Tablets may be taken with or without food. Do not stop treatment abruptly; withdrawal of the beta-blocker component should be gradual.

• Contraindicated in second

• severe bradycardia or severe hypotension
• Contraindicated in bronchial asthma
• severe COPD and untreated phaeochromocytoma
• Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to amlodipine
• atenolol
• other dihydropyridines or any excipient
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment
• renal impairment
• diabetes mellitus
• peripheral vascular disease and psoriasis
• Avoid abrupt withdrawal (risk of rebound angina or hypertension)
• Pregnancy and lactation: not recommended
• Dispensed only on prescription of a registered physician
