Diabetmin 500mg

Indication

Adjunct to diet for the treatment of type 2 (non-insulin dependent) diabetes mellitus, especially in overweight patients, when dietary management alone does not result in adequate glycaemic control.

Ingredients

• Metformin Hydrochloride 500mg

Direction

Initial dose: 500mg two or three times daily with or after meals. Maintenance dose adjusted according to blood glucose response. Maximum: 3g daily in divided doses.

Side effects

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhoea
• Abdominal discomfort
• Metallic taste
• Loss of appetite
• Lactic acidosis (rare but serious)

Precautions

• Contraindicated in renal impairment
• Contraindicated in hepatic impairment
• Avoid in conditions with risk of tissue hypoxia
• Discontinue before contrast media administration and major surgery
