Indication
Combined oral contraceptive pill for the prevention of pregnancy.
Ingredients
- Drospirenone 3 mg
- Ethinylestradiol 0.030 mg
Direction
Take one tablet orally once daily for 21 consecutive days, followed by a 7-day tablet-free interval. Refer to enclosed leaflet for further information.
Side effects
- Irregular menstrual bleeding or spotting
- particularly in the first months.
- Nausea
- vomiting
- headache.
- Breast tenderness.
- Mood changes
- decreased libido
- depression.
- Weight changes.
- Increased risk of venous thromboembolism (blood clots).
- Elevated blood pressure.
- Fluid retention.
- Hyperkalaemia (elevated potassium) due to antimineralocorticoid effect of drospirenone — monitor in patients on potassium
- sparing drugs.
- Risk of arterial events (stroke
- myocardial infarction) — especially in smokers over 35.
