Indication

Treatment of intestinal worm infections including ankylostomiasis (hookworm), ascaridiasis (roundworm) and oxyurose (pinworm).

Ingredients

• Mebendazole

Direction

Intestinal worm infections (single dose): Adults and children over 2 years: 500 mg as a single dose. May be repeated after 2–4 weeks if reinfection is likely. Take orally, chew or crush the tablet. Can be taken without food.

Side effects

• Common at single doses: generally well tolerated.
• Gastrointestinal: abdominal pain
• diarrhea
• nausea
• flatulence (usually mild and transient).
• Rare: elevated liver enzymes
• hepatitis with prolonged high
• dose use.
• Rare: hypersensitivity reactions (rash
• urticaria).
• Very rare: agranulocytosis
• neutropenia with long
• term high
• dose therapy.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to mebendazole or benzimidazoles.
• Not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy.
• Use with caution during pregnancy in general
• weigh benefit vs. risk.
• Avoid in patients with inflammatory bowel disease or hepatic impairment.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Treat all members of the household simultaneously to prevent reinfection.
