Utosamide 500 mg

Indication

Anthelmintic for the treatment of taeniasis (tapeworm infection). Use as directed by the physician.

Direction

Tapeworm infection (Taenia solium, Taenia saginata, Diphyllobothrium latum): Adults and children over 2 years: 2 g (4 × 500 mg tablets) as a single dose, or in two divided doses of 1 g with a 1-hour interval. Chew tablets thoroughly or crush and suspend in water. Take on an empty stomach. A laxative may be given 2 hours after the dose.

Side effects

• Gastrointestinal: nausea
• vomiting
• abdominal discomfort
• diarrhea (usually mild and transient).
• Dizziness
• drowsiness.
• Rare: skin rash
• pruritus.
• Rare: fever.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to niclosamide.
• Not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly necessary
• consult a doctor.
• Avoid alcohol on the day of treatment.
• Ensure adequate hydration.
• Tablets must be chewed thoroughly and washed down with water.
• Treat all household members as appropriate.
• Keep out of reach of children.
