Methylprednisolone 4 mg

Indication

Corticosteroid used for treatment of inflammatory disorders, allergic conditions, autoimmune diseases, and rheumatic disorders. On medical prescription only.

Ingredients

• Methylprednisolone 4 mg

Direction

Dose varies by indication. Adults: typically 4–48 mg/day in divided doses. Children: calculated by weight (0.5–1.7 mg/kg/day) under medical supervision. Take with food or milk. Do not stop abruptly after prolonged use.

Side effects

• Cushingoid features (moon face
• weight gain
• buffalo hump) with prolonged use.
• Hyperglycaemia.
• Hypertension
• fluid retention.
• Osteoporosis
• avascular necrosis.
• Mood changes
• insomnia
• psychosis.
• Peptic ulceration.
• Adrenal suppression.
• Increased infection susceptibility.
• Growth retardation in children.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in systemic fungal infections without adequate antifungal therapy.
• Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to methylprednisolone.
• Prolonged use suppresses adrenal function
• taper gradually on discontinuation.
• Increases susceptibility to infections.
• Use with caution in diabetes
• hypertension

• peptic ulcer
• psychiatric disorders.
• Avoid live vaccines during treatment.
• Consult a doctor before use in pregnancy.
• Keep out of reach of children.
