Dextamine 0.5 mg / 2 mg

Indication

Combination of corticosteroid and antihistamine used for the treatment of allergic conditions, including allergic rhinitis, urticaria, and dermatitis. On medical prescription only.

Ingredients

• Dexamethasone (micronized) 0.5 mg
• Dexchlorpheniramine maleate 2 mg

Direction

Adults: 1 tablet twice daily, or as directed by a physician. Children: dose based on weight and age under medical supervision. Take orally with food to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.

Side effects

• Sedation
• drowsiness (from dexchlorpheniramine).
• Dry mouth
• blurred vision
• urinary retention.
• With prolonged dexamethasone use: adrenal suppression
• hyperglycaemia
• osteoporosis.
• Increased susceptibility to infections.
• Rare: hypersensitivity reactions.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in systemic fungal infections without antifungal coverage.
• Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to dexamethasone or antihistamines.
• Prolonged corticosteroid use suppresses adrenal axis
• taper gradually.
• Dexchlorpheniramine causes sedation
• avoid driving or operating machinery.
• Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants.
• Use with caution in glaucoma
• urinary retention
• or prostatic hypertrophy (due to antihistamine).
• Not recommended in children under 2 years.
• Consult a doctor before use in pregnancy.
• Keep out of reach of children.
